Federation Lead Nurse recognised with award for healthcare excellence

Lead Nurse, Andrea Parkin, has won the prestigious award for her commitment to exceptional patient care. Andrea, who has over 30 years of nursing experience, was nominated for the Regional Practice Nurse Awards last month, which recognises the hard work and dedication of nurses across the Yorkshire and Humber region.

Andrea began her nursing career in Barnsley, where she has remained ever since to care for the local community. Alongside her extensive experience in both primary and secondary care, she possesses a Master’s degree as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Primary Care from the University of Huddersfield.

As Lead Nurse at Barnsley Healthcare Federation, Andrea supports the Chief Nursing Officer, in addition to running clinical sessions every week. She has also been involved in the training of GP reception teams and community nurses, and was previously awarded a nurse fellowship at Barnsley Clinical Commissioning Group, to add to her illustrious repertoire of healthcare achievements.

These achievements were made possible through Andrea’s zeal for her work and commitment to ensuring nurses receive high-quality training. For these reasons she won the Practice Nurse Leadership Award, which recognises and rewards nurses who excel beyond normal standards of delivering patient care.

Andrea Parkin, Lead Nurse, Barnsley Healthcare Federation, said:

“I am proud to win the Practice Nurse Leadership Award and heartened to see nurses supporting one-another in this way.

“I love my role at Barnsley Healthcare Federation and am glad to be a part of federated working generally, which is something I support as I believe it’s the most effective way to deliver the best care to our patients. I pride myself on being patient-centred, which is why I have tried to ensure the highest quality training for our nurses and staff.

“For me, supporting nurses in their development of new skills is so important because it harnesses personal development to meet the care needs of our community. I try to channel my values into my work, and to have this recognised is really warming.”

Paul Bibby, Chief Nurse, Barnsley Healthcare Federation, said:

“I’d like to congratulate Andrea on behalf of the Federation, for receiving well-deserved recognition for her hard work.

“Andrea is a valuable member of the team and her dedication to delivering the best possible patient care is at the heart of everything she does here. We know that her admirable work will only continue.”
